What this module does for you
Replace the learner's default 'expose, then trust' model with a deliberate, evidence-aware model in which learning is treated as a skill, attention is a resource, and effort is the path to ease.
Why it matters
Everything else in the system depends on this mental shift: without it, the techniques in later modules will be applied in the old, passive style and silently fail.
Lessons (4)
- Learning Is a Skill You Train: You don't have a fixed amount of intelligence; you have a set of strategies. The outcomes you want come from the strategies you run. (concept-lesson, 12 min)
- Where New Learning Stands On: Every new idea leans on what you already know. If the foundation is shaky or wrong, everything you build on top will lean with it. (concept-lesson, 12 min)
- Five Myths That Block Progress: Exposure feels like mastery; recognised feels like remembered; talent feels like a prerequisite. None of those are true, and acting on them is the most common way learners stall. (myth-buster, 18 min)
- Audit Your Current System: Before adding anything new, surface what you already do. Most learners don't have a learning problem; they have an unexamined routine that's silently failing them. (diagnostic, 15 min)
Skills you'll gain (3)
- Name the system you're running: You can describe the strategies you currently use to learn, and you can name which ones are evidence-based and which are habits.
- Spot a learning myth in real time: When a study technique feels productive but you can't explain why, you pause and check it against evidence before adopting it.
- Read the room (your own state): You can recognise when fatigue, anxiety, or context switch is degrading your study, and adjust the activity rather than push through.
Exercises (2)
- 5-Question Myth Quiz (self-quiz): Score five claims about learning as 'Supported by evidence', 'Mixed', or 'Disproved'. Justify each in one sentence. [5 min, once]
- Current-Routine Audit (reflection): Write down everything you did in your last study session in chronological order. Tag each step as 'evidence-based', 'habit', or 'unclear'. [15 min, once]
Challenges (1)
- Replace One Default (week-project): Pick one study habit you currently run by default. Replace it with an evidence-based alternative for one week. Compare at the end.
- The replaced habit is named, measured, and removed for the week.
- The replacement is run for at least 5 sessions with the same task.
- A short written comparison (predicted vs. actual effect) is logged.
