for the ones drilling one sub-skill at a time and stalling
Goal
Rotate three sub-skills in mixed order inside one sprint so discrimination, not just execution, gets trained.
Source principle
Interleaving: mixing sub-skills inside one session forces the brain to choose the right move, which transfers better to real performance than blocked drilling. : from Make It Stick by Brown, Roediger & McDaniel.
The plan
- ๐0:00-0:05List 3 sub-skills you're building (e.g. lead, follow, footwork).
- ๐ฒ0:05-0:10Pick one drill per sub-skill. Lay them out mixed.
- ๐0:10-0:25Cycle 1: 5 min per sub-skill, rotate. No two same in a row.
- ๐ฉ0:25-0:30Note: which switch felt most jarring? That's the weak link.
- ๐0:30-0:45Cycle 2: same drills, different order. Forced re-choice.
- ๐ง0:45-0:50Water break. Off the mat.
- ๐ฏ0:50-1:05Cycle 3: drills you botched in cycles 1+2 only.
- ๐ก1:05-1:15Reflect: which sub-skill kept getting misjudged? Write the cue.
- โก1:15-1:25Final cycle: full mix, all 3 sub-skills, performance speed.
- ๐1:25-1:30Log: order used, weak link, tomorrow's focus sub-skill.
