The 4-Hour Time Block

The One ThingGoal Setters · Morning · Morning BlockHard

for the one who keeps getting derailed by "just one quick thing"

Goal

Protect a single uninterrupted 4-hour block to do nothing but the One Thing.

Source principle

Time blocking: reserve a 4-hour block every day for the one thing and defend it against everything else. : from The One Thing by Gary Keller.

The plan

  1. 💧
    7:55-8:00 AM
Pre-block setup: water, snacks, closed tabs, door shut.
  2. 📱
    8:00-8:02 AM
Lock phone in another room. Not on the desk. Another room.
  3. ✍️
    8:02-8:05 AM
Write the One Thing at the top of one page. One line.
  4. 🚀
    8:05-9:35 AM
First 90-min deep-work sprint on the One Thing. No switches.
  5. 🚶
    9:35-9:50 AM
15-min walking break. Off the desk. Off the screen.
  6. 🔁
    9:50-11:20 AM
Second 90-min sprint. Same One Thing. No new task.
  7. 11:20-11:50 AM
Third 30-min push: finish, polish, or close the loop.
  8. 📓
    11:50-11:55 AM
5-min cool-down log: what moved. One line.
  9. ✏️
    11:55 AM-12:00 PM
Write tomorrow's One Thing. Close the block.
