๐Ÿ›‘Not-First-Thing Morning

The One ThingOverachievers ยท Morning ยท Morning BlockMedium

for the overachiever who opens their laptop before they open their plan

Goal

Block the first 30 minutes of the morning for the One Thing before any email, grade, or message.

Source principle

Time blocking + Priority, not priorities: the first 30 minutes go to the one thing, not to whatever screams loudest. : from The One Thing by Gary Keller.

The plan

  1. ๐Ÿ“ต

Laptop closed. Phone in another room. Sit.
  2. โœ๏ธ

Write today's One Thing on a single card. One line.
  3. ๐ŸŽฏ
    7:02-7:05 AM
Re-read yesterday's end-of-day note. Confirm today's One Thing still fits.
  4. ๐Ÿš€
    7:05-7:25 AM
20-min first push on the One Thing. No email. No grades. No messages.
  5. ๐Ÿšถ
    7:25-7:28 AM
3-min standing break. Off the desk.
  6. ๐Ÿ”
    7:28-7:50 AM
22-min second push. Same One Thing.
  7. ๐Ÿ—’๏ธ
    7:50-7:55 AM
5-min log: what moved. One line.
  8. โฐ
    7:55-8:00 AM
Open laptop now. Schedule the rest of the day around the One Thing.
