for the ones building their first daily recall habit
Goal
Stand up a 7-day flashcard stack with one short daily recall window you can actually keep.
Source principle
Spaced repetition paired with retrieval: short daily recall windows on a small, growing stack beat heroic weekend marathons. : from Make It Stick by Brown, Roediger & McDaniel.
The plan
- โ๏ธMonWrite 10 cue cards from current material. Question on front, answer on back.
- โTueRecall the 10 + add 5 new ones. 15 total.
- ๐WedRecall all 15 + add 5 new ones. 20 total.
- โ๏ธThuSplit into 'easy' / 'again' piles. Be honest.
- ๐ฏFriRecall the 'again' pile only. Skip the easy ones today.
- ๐SatFull stack recall. All 20 cards, shuffled.
- ๐๏ธSunRetire any card you got cold 3ร this week. The stack is now yours.
- โฑ๏ธDaily5-min queue check: any cards due today? Fire their recall window.
- ๐DailyAfter each recall window: small treat (tea, music, walk). Reward earned.
- ๐End of weekCount cards in each pile. Adjust the cadence for next week.
Reward
A small daily treat after each recall window closes (tea, music, walk).
