๐Ÿง Retrieval Sprint

Make It StickLazy Students ยท Morning ยท Morning BlockEasy

for the ones who'd rather recall than re-read

Goal

Start the day by pulling yesterday's material out of memory instead of re-opening the notes.

Source principle

Retrieval practice: every attempt to recall is itself a learning event, far stronger than re-reading. : from Make It Stick by Brown, Roediger & McDaniel.

The plan

  1. ๐ŸŒ…
    6:00-6:05 AM
    Wake, water, no phone.
  2. ๐Ÿ“–
    6:05-6:15 AM
Open yesterday's notes for 30s: topic names only. Close them.
  3. โœ๏ธ
    6:15-6:30 AM
Brain-dump the 3 core ideas from memory. Pen on paper, no peeking.
  4. ๐Ÿ”
    6:30-6:40 AM
Open notes. Check the dump against them. Mark hits and misses.
  5. ๐Ÿ”
    6:40-7:00 AM
Redo ONLY the gaps. Read once, close, re-recall.
  6. ๐Ÿ“Š
    7:00-7:05 AM
Log recall score (X/3). Track the trend, not the day.
  7. ๐Ÿท๏ธ
    7:05-7:15 AM
Tag the gaps with tomorrow's review date. Spaced repetition cue.
  8. โ˜•
    7:15-7:25 AM
Coffee + 10 min guilt-free scrolling. Reward earned.

Reward

Coffee + 10 min of guilt-free scrolling once the recall score is logged.
