๐Ÿ“Self-Test Evening

Make It StickLazy Students ยท Evening ยท Evening BlockEasy

for the ones who want an easy evening win

Goal

Convert today's notes into 5 self-test questions and answer them cold.

Source principle

Retrieval paired with calibration: turning notes into questions and answering from memory both retrieves the material and shows you what you actually know. : from Make It Stick by Brown, Roediger & McDaniel.

The plan

  1. ๐Ÿ“–
    7:00-7:02 PM
Open today's notes. 2 min only. Just enough to see what's there. Close them.
  2. โ“
    7:02-7:15 PM
Write 5 questions the notes could answer. Not trivia: questions that demand understanding.
  3. ๐Ÿคธ
    7:15-7:20 PM
Break. Stand up, stretch. Let the questions settle.
  4. ๐Ÿง
    7:20-7:40 PM
Answer each from memory. Full sentences, no peeking.
  5. โœ๏ธ
    7:40-7:45 PM
Mark each right / wrong / unsure. Be honest.
  6. ๐ŸŽฏ
    7:45-7:50 PM
Re-read ONLY the unsure ones. Targeted, not broad.
  7. ๐Ÿ”
    7:50-7:55 PM
Re-attempt the unsure ones from memory. Did they stick?
  8. ๐Ÿ“Š
    7:55-8:00 PM
Log the score (X/5). Track the trend across evenings.
  9. ๐ŸŒ™
    8:00-8:05 PM
Close everything. Evening done. Reward earned.
