How to Become a Straight-A StudentAdult Learners ยท Skill Sprint ยท WeeklyHard

for the adult learner pushing a stalled thesis forward in one disciplined week

Goal

Move a stalled thesis forward in one disciplined week using the research โ†’ outline โ†’ draft split.

Source principle

Keep research, outline, and draft in separate sessions across the week. Never blend them. : from How to Become a Straight-A Student by Cal Newport.

The plan

  1. ๐Ÿ”Ž
    Mon
Research sprint: 90 min hunting sources, capture citations only.
  2. ๐Ÿ“
    Tue
Research synthesis: 60 min, write a 1-page summary of what you found.
  3. ๐Ÿงฑ
    Wed
Outline session: 60 min, section headers, claims, evidence slots.
  4. ๐Ÿ”
    Thu
Outline review: 30 min, mark weak spots, schedule targeted research if needed.
  5. โœ๏ธ
    Fri
Draft block 1: 90 min, intro + first body section, forward only, no edits.
  6. โœ๏ธ
    Sat
Draft block 2: 90 min, remaining body + conclusion, push to the end.
  7. ๐Ÿ›‹๏ธ
    Sun AM
    Rest, no thesis work.
  8. ๐Ÿ”Š
    Sun PM
Read the draft aloud, mark anything that sounds wrong, don't revise yet.
  9. ๐Ÿ”
    Daily
25-min recall of yesterday's work, from memory, don't reopen the draft.
  10. ๐Ÿ“‹
    Daily
Write tomorrow's to-do list, the week runs on autopilot.
  11. ๐Ÿ˜ด
    Daily
Fixed 8-hour sleep window, no all-nighters, they break the system.
  12. ๐Ÿ—‚๏ธ
    Sun eve
Sunday weekly review: what moved? What's next week's single priority?
