⏱️30-Minute Focus Block

The Now HabitLow Exec Function · Focus Recovery · Single SessionEasy

for the one who can't look at a clock without dreading the hours ahead

Goal

Get one block of work done using a 30-minute countdown timer instead of watching the clock.

Source principle

Use a countdown timer for short focus blocks rather than watching the clock. A finite 30 minutes feels survivable. : from The Now Habit by Neil Fiore.

The plan

  1. 🎯
    0:00-0:02
Pick ONE task. Write it on a sticky note. Just one.
  2. ✍️
    0:02-0:03
Write the task on a second sticky. Place it where you'll see it.
  3. 🚪
    0:03-0:05
Close every other tab and app. Phone face-down in another room.
  4. 📱
    0:05-0:06
Set phone timer to 30 min. Countdown, not clock. Place it face-down.
  5. 🗣️
    0:06-0:07
Say out loud: 'looks like I'm starting'.
  6. 🚀
    0:07-0:32
Do only that task until the bell. No tabs, no phone, no other task.
  7. 🛑
    0:32-0:33
When the bell rings: stop. No overtime allowed. The bell is the boss.
  8. 🤸
    0:33-0:35
Stand up, stretch. Off the desk.
  9. 🎁
    0:35-0:40
5-min guilt-free play break. Reward earned.

Reward

A 5-minute guilt-free play break the instant the timer rings.
